Au Pair Abroad
Do you enjoy working with children? Would you like to live in a family setting during your time abroad? Are you patient, energetic, and ready to make an impact on a child’s life? Consider becoming an au pair. As an au pair, you’ll live with a host family abroad, providing childcare in exchange for room, board, and a weekly stipend.
Being an au pair is one of the most fulfilling international jobs available, because you have the chance to form a real bond with your host family, and especially with the children in your care. Au pairs are considered to be an extended member of their host family—you’ll participate in family activities, share meals, and experience family life in another culture. You’ll also be able to make friends with people your own age and spend your free time discovering your host community.
About the Job
All of your responsibilities as an au pair will be directly related to childcare. While you may be asked to help keep the children’s rooms and play areas clean, you will not be expected to do general housework or domestic duties for the entire family. Typical duties might include:
- Bringing the children to school and picking them up
- Playing with the children and taking them to activities
- Helping with homework
- Helping the children keep their rooms clean
- Preparing meals for the children
